Unmemorable Title? What a rubbish name.

Fair comment.

It is a rubbish name. It was a placeholder name for the marketing blog I started way back in 2009. But I liked it, I kept it, and I’m keeping it.

I’m Andrew, by the way. Andrew Nattan.

And I’ve been a marketing copywriter since 2007. As a junior, I kept my mouth shut, but a few years in, I started blogging about copywriting.

That blog was Unmemorable Title.

Then I turned the blog into a business - 603 Copywriting. Did well, paid the bills, but wasn’t ever big enough to get to where I wanted to be.

So I went into business with my two biggest competitors. Created a marketing agency - HNW. That’s going well.

Along the way I ran a conference. Creative North. That went well, stressed me out, got hit by COVID-19 and then got put on the shelf.

Basically, I’ve done a lot. Made some mistakes. Learned from a few, repeated the rest. And I’ve got some insight to share.

Not in a “sharing content to build my business” kind of way, but in a “telling stories you’ll find interesting" way.

I don’t write worthy, try hard “my life’s great” guru shite.

Here’s some of the things I’ve learned during my time.

  1. As a junior, my head of copy tied my shoelaces to my chair and I fell over. People might pretend this job’s super serious, but really, it’s fucking about with words and we need to have fun with it.

  2. As a freelancer, I turned my PPC campaign off to go on holiday for a week, forgot about it for two months, decimated my lead pipeline and nearly went bust. Wouldn’t have happened if I’d written a reminder on a post-it instead of on some productivity app, because you can’t accidentally dismiss a post-it alert.

  3. I once had a client refuse to pay because I wouldn’t make “free P&P” the key USP for his whole marketing campaign. He’d been going for 30 years. You’re never too old to bollocks up your entire business if you don’t keep learning and adapting.
